Hello, I’m Ed Gilbert.
In late 2011, my wife and I started a taxi service based in Cortez, Colorado known as Cortez Cab. We are located near the Four Corners in the very southwest part of Colorado.
Cortez Cab provides point to point transportation anywhere in Montezuma and Dolores Counties and even provides transportation farther away to locations such as to Telluride and Durango. We offer taxicab and special delivery service every day. On-demand service is available from 6AM until midnight for the most of the week but we run later on Fridays and Saturdays until 2AM. If you need a taxi between midnight and 6AM, make an advance reservation and we’ll be there to get you.

Medicaid Transportation Service
Cortez Cab is a certified Medicaid Transportation Provider in the state of Colorado for both Non-Emergency Medical and Non-Medical transportation. We enable a greater level of accessibility to life sustaining and healthcare needs for eligible clients. We coordinate with respective health care providers, Montezuma County Social Services and Health Department to provide transportation for Medicaid recipients.
Q: Can someone in a wheelchair ride a taxi?
A: Yes. As long as the individual is capable of getting in and out of the chair and into the taxi and the wheelchair is collapsible. We cannot take motorized wheelchairs at this time as we do not have wheelchair accessible vehicles.
Q: What is Medicaid Transportation?
A: It is a service for eligible Medicaid clients who have no other means of transportation to get to and or from medical appointments. Certain Medicaid clients with special waivers may be eligible for Non-Medical trips such as shopping, errands, and recreation. Medicaid covers the cost for approved transportation using certified providers (such as Cortez Cab) so there is no cost to the client.
Q: How is Medicaid Transportation arranged?
A: For Non-Emergency Medical trips, contact Montezuma County Social Services for approval and then call Cortez Cab to arrange transportation. For Non-Medical trips, contact the Montezuma County Health Department or your Case Manager to check for eligibility.
Q: Do I have to make advance reservations?
A: Reservations are welcome, but not required unless you need a taxi between midnight and 6AM. If you have an important appointment or a scheduled flight to or from the airport, a reservation makes it easier for us to get you where you need to be on time. Otherwise, just call 970-565-6911 for "On-Demand" service (You call...We come)
Q: Can I bring my pet in a taxi?
A: Yes. However, there is an additional charge of $4.00 per pet and the pet must be in a pet carrier.
Q: Can the taxi carry my bike?
A: Yes. As long as the bicycle can be safely loaded into the taxi without causing damage. Cortez Cab currently does not have bike racks installed on its vehicles, but if there is enough demand, we will certainly add them.
Q: What if I call for a taxi and there is no answer?
A: Sometimes the call volume is high enough you may not get through or you may get voice mail. If this happens, please call us again or leave a message with your name and number so we can get back to you ASAP. Also, at times the main line will be forwarded to one of the drivers that is in service and as you know how cellular service is out here, we will lose it from time to time as we travel about the area. We apologize in advance and ask to just keep trying, you shouldn't have to try more than twice.
Q: How long will it take to be picked up?
A: If you have made an advance reservation...your cab should arrive at the scheduled time or earlier. Normally our response time averages 15 minutes or less but obviously will take longer depending on the call volume and distances. The call taker should always give an estimated time of arrival and someone will stay in touch with you if there are delays.
